However, the refining process for synthetic oil is different, and it yields many advantages. The molecular size is uniform, which makes this oil better at reducing friction. It can stand up to heat better and contains fewer impurities. What’s more, synthetic oil lasts longer than conventional oil. While the exact recommendations vary, you likely won’t need to have synthetic oil changed more frequently than every 5,000 miles—and you may be able to go much longer than that! Since it’s better for your engine and it lasts longer, we recommend using synthetic oil if you have a choice.
